In our 2024 Annual Report, we’re happy to share what we’ve achieved this year. It has been a year of growth, new partnerships, and investments that will help us continue our work in bioinformatics and genomics. We’ve made progress in several areas, and we look forward to building on this success in the future.
One of the biggest highlights of the year was expansion of our portfolio of industry collaborators with a new partnership with Ritual Dental, a company focused on improving dental care in the U.S. Together, we are working on new ways to study the oral microbiome and its contribution to disease. With this partnership, we aim to create better tools for diagnosing and treating patients, making dental care more personal and effective.
We also took a big step forward by starting the renovation of our new Research and Training Center at the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB). Thanks to grants and generous donations, we are building a two-floor facility to support our growing team of over 20 researchers. This new space will help us work more efficiently and provide a better space for training programs and workshops. The renovation is expected to be finished in 2025, and we’re excited to move into a space that will support our research for years to come.
In 2024, we published 8 research papers, focused on genetic determinants of stress response in grapes, genetic heterogeneity of cancers and neurological disorders, and spatial transcriptomics.
Our programs also grew this year, especially with the OMICSS-24 Summer School in Genome Bioinformatics. We welcomed 21 students from Armenia, Russia, Germany, and Sweden, who learned about bioinformatics, molecular biology, sequencing technologies and functional genomics. The program was led by 5 lecturers, 19 guest lecturers, and 9 mentors from ABI and top institutions from Europe and the US. Students worked on projects like studying cancer treatment resistance, the effects of smoking on the oral microbiome and genetic variability of grapevine. Several students have already started internships and research positions with us, and we are excited to continue supporting them in their careers.
Looking ahead, we are focused on continuing our growth through new partnerships, research, and training. We are grateful for the support of our partners, donors, and everyone at ABI who makes these achievements possible. We are excited for what the future holds and look forward to another year of progress.
