New Collaboration with EPFL to Explore Chronic Lung Infections

The Armenian Bioinformatics Institute (ABI) is collaborating with the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) on a new research project to investigate how the human lung responds to chronic infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This bacterium is commonly linked to long-term respiratory conditions such as cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The project is led by Dr. Lucas Meirelles and Dr. Alexandre Persat at EPFL, whose work focuses on host-pathogen interactions and microbial behavior in the lung environment. ABI’s Arpine Grigoryan will contribute bioinformatics expertise to the project, performing analyses on single-cell transcriptomic datasets to identify cellular responses and molecular mechanisms underlying chronic infections.

This collaboration combines molecular biology with advanced computational approaches, aiming to generate new insights into one of today’s most pressing health challenges.
